# Jack Underman

**John O. Underman**[1] (August 17, 1925 – October 23, 1969)[2][3] was an American [basketball](/source/Basketball) player. Underman was selected in the [1947 BAA draft](/source/1947_BAA_draft) by the [St. Louis Bombers](/source/St._Louis_Bombers_(NBA)) after a collegiate career at [Ohio State](/source/Ohio_State_Buckeyes_men's_basketball) (OSU), although he never played professionally.[4][5] Underman went to [West High School](/source/West_High_School_(Columbus,_Ohio)) in [Columbus](/source/Columbus,_Ohio).[6] He started his collegiate career at [Capital University](/source/Capital_University) during the 1943–44 season.[7] Underman transferred to Ohio State and sat out the 1944–45 season.[7] He led the [Big Nine Conference](/source/Big_Ten_Conference) in scoring as a [junior](/source/Junior_(education_year)) in 1945–46, the same season the Buckeyes made the [NCAA Final Four](/source/NCAA_Men's_Division_I_Basketball_Championship) and won the Third Place game.

Underman then became an oral surgeon.[3] He died in a car crash on October 23, 1969, at age 44.[8]
