He appeared as a [pinch hitter](/source/pinch_hitter), [second baseman](/source/second_baseman) and [left fielder](/source/left_fielder) in five [Major League](/source/Major_League_Baseball) [games](/source/games_played) for the {{baseball year|1963}} [St. Louis Cardinals](/source/St._Louis_Cardinals).  Listed at {{convert|5|ft|11|in}} tall and {{convert|168|lb}}, Damaska batted and threw [right-handed](/source/right-handed). He was born in [Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania](/source/Beaver_Falls%2C_Pennsylvania).

Signed by the Cardinals in 1957, Damaska played in 1,902 games during a 17-year-long [minor league](/source/minor_league_baseball) playing career but his five appearances for the Cardinals all occurred in July of [1963](/source/1963_in_baseball).  He took the field only twice, once at [second base](/source/second_base) and once in the [outfield](/source/outfield); in four [innings](/source/inning_(baseball)) on defense, he recorded no [chances](/source/chance_(baseball)). He had a total of five [at bats](/source/at_bats), with four [strikeout](/source/strikeout)s and one hit, a pinch [single](/source/single_(baseball)) off [Denny Lemaster](/source/Denny_Lemaster) of the [Milwaukee Braves](/source/Milwaukee_Braves) on July 11 in the first game of a [doubleheader](/source/doubleheader_(baseball)). His hit, however, sparked a five-[run](/source/run_(baseball)) [seventh-inning](/source/inning_(baseball)) rally to enable the Cardinals to defeat the Braves, 6–3. As late as 1973, Damaska was playing for the [Québec Carnavals](/source/Qu%C3%A9bec_Carnavals) of the [Double-A](/source/Double-A_(baseball)) [Eastern League](/source/Eastern_League_(1938%E2%80%932020)).  He spent one year as a minor league [manager](/source/manager_(baseball)) in 1974 for the [Kinston Expos](/source/Kinston_Expos) of the [Class-A](/source/Class_A_(baseball)) [Carolina League](/source/Carolina_League), a [Montreal](/source/Montreal_Expos) affiliate that folded at the end of its only season of play.
