# Jack Cloud

**Jack Martin Cloud** (January 1, 1925 – June 19, 2010) was an American professional [football](/source/American_football) [linebacker](/source/Linebacker) and [fullback](/source/Fullback_(American_football)) in the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL) for the [Green Bay Packers](/source/Green_Bay_Packers) and the [Washington Redskins](/source/Washington_Commanders). He was inducted into the [Virginia Sports Hall of Fame](/source/Virginia_Sports_Hall_of_Fame_and_Museum) in 1984 and the [College Football Hall of Fame](/source/College_Football_Hall_of_Fame) in 1990.

## Early life

Cloud attended and played [high school football](/source/High_school_football) at [Matthew Fontaine Maury High School](/source/Matthew_Fontaine_Maury_High_School) in [Norfolk, Virginia](/source/Norfolk,_Virginia).[1] After graduation, he served three years in the [United States Air Force](/source/United_States_Air_Force) before college.[1]

## College career

Cloud attended and played [college football](/source/College_football) at [the College of William & Mary](/source/The_College_of_William_%26_Mary), where he scored five touchdowns in one game and set a school scoring record of 102 points in 1947.[1]

## Professional career

Cloud was [drafted](/source/NFL_Draft) in the sixth round of the [1950 NFL draft](/source/1950_NFL_draft) by the [Green Bay Packers](/source/Green_Bay_Packers) (1950–1951). He then played for the [Washington Redskins](/source/Washington_Commanders) (1952–1953).

## Coaching and the Navy

After retiring from the NFL, Cloud became an assistant coach at William & Mary in 1954.[1] The following year, he became the [athletic director](/source/Athletic_director) and head coach at [Naval Station Norfolk](/source/Naval_Station_Norfolk) (1955–1958).[1] He then joined the staff at the [United States Naval Academy](/source/United_States_Naval_Academy), where he had a 22-year career as lightweight coach and assistant varsity coach. After retiring from coaching, Cloud was an associate professor of [physical education](/source/Physical_education) and special assistant to the director of athletics. He retired in 1990.[1]
