# Jack Chadburn

**John Chadburn** (12 February 1873 – December 1923) was an English [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played in [the Football League](/source/The_Football_League) for [Lincoln City](/source/Lincoln_City_F.C.), [Notts County](/source/Notts_County_F.C.), [Wolverhampton Wanderers](/source/Wolverhampton_Wanderers_F.C.), [West Bromwich Albion](/source/West_Bromwich_Albion_F.C.) and [Liverpool](/source/Liverpool_F.C.). He also played in the [Southern League](/source/Southern_Football_League) for [Plymouth Argyle](/source/Plymouth_Argyle_F.C.). Born in [Mansfield](/source/Mansfield), Chadburn could play as a [full back](/source/Defender_(association_football)) and an [outside forward](/source/Outside_forward).[1]

## Career

Chadburn joined [English Football League](/source/English_Football_League) side [Lincoln City](/source/Lincoln_City_F.C.) in 1892. He made his first team debut on 7 September 1893 in a 1–1 draw against [Rotherham Town](/source/Rotherham_Town_F.C._(1878)). He scored 10 times during the season in 27 appearances in total.[2] This earned him a move to First Division [Notts County](/source/Notts_County_F.C.) where he remained for three seasons.

He joined [Wolverhampton Wanderers](/source/Wolverhampton_Wanderers_F.C.) in October 1897, making his club debut on 27 November 1897 in a 2–1 win at [Preston North End](/source/Preston_North_End_F.C.).[3] Chadburn was unable to hold down a regular first team place at [Molineux](/source/Molineux_Stadium), and made just 12 appearances in total over two seasons.

He moved to their [Black Country rivals](/source/Black_Country_derby) [West Bromwich Albion](/source/West_Bromwich_Albion_F.C.) in January 1900. Here, he helped the club win promotion as champions back to the top flight in the [1901–02 campaign](/source/1901%E2%80%9302_Football_League).

[Liverpool](/source/Liverpool_F.C.) signed him during the summer of 1903 but he only managed two first team appearances for the Merseyside club, the opening fixtures of the [1903–04 season](/source/1903%E2%80%9304_in_English_football).[4] He joined [Southern League](/source/Southern_Football_League) side [Plymouth Argyle](/source/Plymouth_Argyle_F.C.) towards the end of the campaign, their first as a professional club, and made his debut in March 1904.[5] He appeared sporadically for the first team, scoring one goal in 15 appearances, before being released at the end of the [1904–05 season](/source/1904%E2%80%9305_Southern_Football_League).[5] He had a brief spell with [Swindon Town](/source/Swindon_Town_F.C.) and went on to play for [Mansfield Mechanics](/source/Mansfield_Mechanics_F.C.) and Woodhouse Rangers before retiring from competitive football in 1909.[5][6]
