==Career==
Carthy began competing on the elite [UCI Trials World Cup](/source/UCI_Trials_World_Cup) in 2012. He finished third in his first World Cup event in [Aalter, Belgium](/source/Aalter) aged just 15.<ref name="aalter_2012" /> He won the overall Elite World Cup title in 2014 while still a junior, winning 3 of the 5 rounds. He successfully defended his World Cup title in 2015 and 2016 and is thus the reigning UCI World Cup champion.<ref name="eb" /><ref name="uci_2016_world_cup" />

Carthy was junior UCI world champion in [2013](/source/2013_UCI_Mountain_Bike_%26_Trials_World_Championships) and [2014](/source/2014_UCI_Mountain_Bike_%26_Trials_World_Championships) and junior European champion in 2014.<ref name="eb" /> In the Elite category in 2015 he was European champion and finished second in the [UCI World Championships](/source/2015_UCI_Mountain_Bike_%26_Trials_World_Championships) in [Vallnord](/source/Vallnord), [Andorra](/source/Andorra).<ref name="ec_2015" /><ref name="kn" />

In 2016 Carthy won the [2016 UCI World Championship](/source/2016_UCI_Mountain_Bike_%26_Trials_World_Championships) in the [elite 26-inch category](/source/UCI_Mountain_Bike_%26_Trials_World_Championships_%E2%80%93_Men's_trials%2C_26_inch) in [Val di Sole, Italy](/source/Val_di_Sole).<ref name="eb" /> He was the first [British](/source/United_Kingdom) rider to win a [UCI Elite Trials World Championship](/source/UCI_Mountain_Bike_%26_Trials_World_Championships) in any category.
