**J Centauri** (J Cen) is a [star](/source/Star) in the [constellation](/source/Constellation) [Centaurus](/source/Centaurus). Its mean [apparent magnitude](/source/Apparent_magnitude) is 4.5, making it easily visible to the [naked eye](/source/Naked_eye). It is approximately 350 [light years](/source/Light_year) from [Earth](/source/Earth).

J Centauri is a [spectral class](/source/Stellar_classification) B3V [main sequence](/source/Main_sequence) star with a [luminosity](/source/Solar_luminosity) 265 times that of the Sun. The temperature of the star's [photosphere](/source/Photosphere) is nearly 25,000 K. The [rotation velocity](/source/Stellar_rotation) at the equator is at least 223 km/s.[8] It is believed to be a binary star system.[10]

This star may be a member of the [Scorpio-Centaurus](/source/Scorpius%E2%80%93Centaurus_association) [OB association](/source/Stellar_association) (Sco OB2). This is one of the nearest regions of recent star formation.[11]
