==Construction and career==
''Suzutsuki'' was [laid down](/source/Keel_laying) on May 18, 2011 at [Mitsubishi Heavy Industries](/source/Mitsubishi_Heavy_Industries) [Nagasaki](/source/Nagasaki) Shipyard & Machinery Works as the 2009 plan 5,000-ton type escort ship No. 2246 based on the medium-term defense capability development plan, and [launched](/source/Ceremonial_ship_launching) on October 17, 2012. [Commissioned](/source/Commissioned_(ship)) on March 12, 2014, it was incorporated into the 8th Escort Corps of the 4th Escort Corps and deployed to [Sasebo](/source/Sasebo).

On July 10, 2016, as part of the 25th dispatched [anti-piracy](/source/Anti-piracy_measures_in_Somalia) action surface corps, it sailed from [Sasebo](/source/Sasebo) base to the [Gulf of Aden](/source/Gulf_of_Aden) off the [coast of Somalia](/source/Coastline_of_Somalia) with the escort ship [JS Inazuma](/source/JS_Inazuma) and returned to Japan on January 12, 2016.<ref>{{Cite web|title=Facebook|url=https://www.facebook.com/JMSDF.PAO.fp/photos/pcb.1321669347894780/1321669027894812/?type=3|access-date=2020-10-29|website=www.facebook.com}}</ref>

From August 26 to October 30, 2018, participated in the Indo-Pacific dispatch training with the escort vessels [JS Kaga](/source/JS_Kaga) and [JS Inazuma](/source/JS_Inazuma_(DD-105)), and visited [India](/source/India), [Indonesia](/source/Indonesia), [Singapore](/source/Singapore), [Sri Lanka](/source/Sri_Lanka) and [Philippines](/source/Philippines). On September 13, she joined the submarine [JS Kuroshio](/source/JS_Kuroshio_(SS-596)) in the [South China Sea](/source/South_China_Sea) and conducted [anti-submarine warfare training](/source/Anti-submarine_warfare).

On April 21, 2019, she entered [Qingdao](/source/Qingdao) to participate in the [International Fleet Review Ceremony](/source/International_Fleet_Review_2019) to be held on April 23 near Qingdao, [Shandong Province](/source/Shandong), to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the [PLA Navy](/source/People's_Liberation_Army_Navy). It had been about seven and a half years since the last JMSDF ship visited [China](/source/China) in December 2011.

On July 4, 2024, without notifying the Chinese government, ''Suzutsuki'' briefly entered Chinese territorial waters about 22 kilometers off the coast of [Zhejiang Province](/source/Zhejiang). At the time, the Chinese Navy was conducting military exercises.
