## Rugby career

### Youth

### Western Province / Blue Bulls

He represented them in the domestic [Currie Cup](/source/Currie_Cup) and [Vodacom Cup](/source/Vodacom_Cup) competitions between 2009 and 2011, before joining teammates [Johann Sadie](/source/Johann_Sadie) and [Lionel Cronjé](/source/Lionel_Cronj%C3%A9) in making the move to [Pretoria](/source/Pretoria) to join the [Blue Bulls](/source/Bulls_(rugby_union)) ahead of the 2012 season.[4] He established himself in the [Bulls](/source/Bulls_(rugby_union)) [Super Rugby](/source/Super_Rugby) team during the [2012 Super Rugby season](/source/2012_Super_Rugby_season), scoring three tries in seventeen appearances in the competition. He broke into the [national team](/source/South_Africa_national_rugby_union_team) and signed a contract extension in June 2013 to keep him at the [Blue Bulls](/source/Bulls_(rugby_union)) until 2016.[5]

### Toyota Industries Shuttles

After the [2015 Super Rugby season](/source/2015_Super_Rugby_season), Engelbrecht joined [Japanese](/source/Japan) [Top League](/source/Top_League) side [Toyota Industries Shuttles](/source/Toyota_Industries_Shuttles) for the 2015–2016 season.[6]
