# Ivo Posti

**Ivo Posti** (born 26 October 1975 in [Vana-Kuuste](/source/Vana-Kuuste)) is an [Estonian](/source/Estonia) [countertenor](/source/Countertenor) and historian. Director of [Narva Museum](/source/Narva_Museum).

## Early life

Ivo Posti at first studied history in the Estonian [University of Tartu](/source/University_of_Tartu) and became a teacher of Political Science. Between 1996–2001, he studied singing with Aino Kõiv at the [Heino Eller](/source/Heino_Eller) Music School in [Tartu](/source/Tartu), and from 2001 until 2007, he studied at [Royal Conservatory of The Hague](/source/Royal_Conservatory_of_The_Hague) where his teachers were Rita Dams and Barbara Pearson. He has also studied with [Marius van Altena](/source/Marius_van_Altena) and Diane Forlano and has had master classes with Taru Valjakka, Thomas Wiedenhofer, [Michael Chance](/source/Michael_Chance), [Jill Feldman](/source/Jill_Feldman), Rick Harrell, Niels Muus, Brian Masuda and [Roberta Alexander](/source/Roberta_Alexander).

## Career

Ivo Posti has given concerts in Estonia and abroad. He has also won many prizes in different competitions (both as a pop singer and an opera singer). Since 2005 Posti has organized masterclasses for classical singers in [Tartu](/source/Tartu).

In the 2007–2008 season, Posti was a member of Opera Studio Nederland.[1] In January 2008 he debuted in co-operation with the [Aix-en-Provence Festival](/source/Aix-en-Provence_Festival) in France, where he performed the role of The Spirit in *[Dido and Aeneas](/source/Dido_and_Aeneas)* by [Henry Purcell](/source/Henry_Purcell) in [Opéra de Lille](/source/Op%C3%A9ra_de_Lille) and [Grand Théâtre de Provence](/source/Grand_Th%C3%A9%C3%A2tre_de_Provence) (conducted by [Kenneth Weiss](/source/Kenneth_Weiss_(conductor))).[2] In the season 2008-2009 he sang the role of Grazia in *[Ercole Amante](/source/Ercole_Amante)* by [Francesco Cavalli](/source/Francesco_Cavalli) in [De Nederlandse Opera](/source/De_Nederlandse_Opera) and role of Parque in *[Hippolyte et Aricie](/source/Hippolyte_et_Aricie)* by [Jean-Philippe Rameau](/source/Jean-Philippe_Rameau) at the Nationale Reisopera in [The Netherlands](/source/The_Netherlands). He also performed [George Frideric Handel](/source/George_Frideric_Handel)'s *[Brockes Passion](/source/Brockes_Passion)* in April 2009 with [Concerto Copenhagen](/source/Concerto_Copenhagen) (conducted by Kenneth Weiss) in [Spain](/source/Spain). In June 2010 he sang the role of Vjazemskaja in *The Dog's Heart* by [Alexander Raskatov](/source/Alexander_Raskatov) (world-premiere) at [De Nederlandse Opera](/source/De_Nederlandse_Opera).

Posti also sings jazz and ballades as a baritone.[3]
