**Ivan Grigoryevich Shcheglovitov** ([Russian](/source/Russian_language): Ива́н Григо́рьевич Щеглови́тов; 25 February [[O.S.](/source/Old_Style_and_New_Style_dates) 13 February] 1861 – 5 September 1918) was a right-wing politician who served as the [Russian minister of Justice](/source/Ministry_of_Justice_of_the_Russian_Empire) and the last chairman of the [State Council](/source/State_Council_(Russian_Empire)) of the [Russian Empire](/source/Russian_Empire).

## Life

Graduate of the [Imperial School of Law](/source/Imperial_School_of_Law). Held various posts in the Senate and the Ministry of Justice between 1890 and 1905; Assistant Minister of Justice (1906), Minister of Justice (1906-1915), Member of the State Council (1907), and Chairman of the State Council (January 1917). Shcheglovitov was one of the main instigators of a notorious [Blood libel](/source/Blood_libel) case against [Menachem Beilis](/source/Menahem_Mendel_Beilis) in 1913.[1]

After the [February Revolution](/source/February_Revolution) he was imprisoned by the [Bolsheviks](/source/Bolsheviks) in the [Peter and Paul Fortress](/source/Peter_and_Paul_Fortress); later transferred to [Moscow](/source/Moscow) and executed by the [Bolsheviks](/source/Bolsheviks) during the period of [Red Terror](/source/Red_Terror).
