==Early life==
Chekhovich was born in [Yekaterinburg](/source/Yekaterinburg). He played major junior hockey in North America with [Baie-Comeau Drakkar](/source/Baie-Comeau_Drakkar) in the [Quebec Major Junior Hockey League](/source/Quebec_Major_Junior_Hockey_League).

==Playing career ==
On 21 April 2018, Chekhovich was signed by the San Jose Sharks in the last round of the [2017 NHL entry draft](/source/2017_NHL_entry_draft) to a three-year, entry-level contract.<ref>{{cite web| url = https://www.nhl.com/sharks/news/sharks-sign-forward-ivan-chekhovich/c-298153254 | title = Sharks sign forward Ivan Chekhovich to entry-level contract | publisher = [San Jose Sharks](/source/San_Jose_Sharks) | date = 21 April 2018 | access-date = 21 April 2018}}</ref>

With the [2020–21](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_NHL_season) North American season set to be delayed by the [COVID-19 pandemic](/source/COVID-19_pandemic), Chekhovich was loaned by the Sharks to remain in his native Russia, on a season-long agreement with [Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod](/source/Torpedo_Nizhny_Novgorod) of the [Kontinental Hockey League](/source/Kontinental_Hockey_League) (KHL).<ref>{{cite web | url = http://www.hctorpedo.ru/16437-molodoj-forvard-sistemy-san-hose-sharks-popolnil-torpedo.html | title = Prospect of the San Jose Sharks joins Torpedo | publisher = [Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod](/source/Torpedo_Nizhny_Novgorod) | date = 19 October 2020 | access-date = 19 October 2020 | language = Russian | archive-date = 1 November 2020 | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20201101032920/http://www.hctorpedo.ru/16437-molodoj-forvard-sistemy-san-hose-sharks-popolnil-torpedo.html | url-status = dead }}</ref> Chekhovich made his KHL debut during the [2020–21 KHL season](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_KHL_season) and was among the leading rookie scorers in the league, placing fourth in team scoring with 17 goals and 34 points through 43 regular season games. Chekhovich was re-assigned by the Sharks to continue his season with AHL affiliate, the [San Jose Barracuda](/source/San_Jose_Barracuda), on 12 March 2021. He made his NHL debut on 30 April 2021, in a 0–3 loss to the [Colorado Avalanche](/source/Colorado_Avalanche) and finished the season with four appearances with the Sharks, registering one assist.<ref>{{cite web| url = https://www.nhl.com/sharks/news/san-jose-sharks-colorado-avalanche-game-recap/c-323912060| title = Grubauer makes 21 saves in return, Avalanche shut out Sharks| publisher = [San Jose Sharks](/source/San_Jose_Sharks) | date = 30 April 2021 | access-date = 30 April 2021}}</ref>

On 31 August 2021, with a contract offer to return to Torpedo, Chekhovich opted to mutually terminate the remaining year of his entry-level contract with the Sharks and was placed on unconditional waivers on 31 August 2021.<ref>{{cite web| url =  https://www.prohockeyrumors.com/2021/08/ivan-chekhovich-placed-on-unconditional-waivers.html | title = Ivan Chekhovich placed on unconditional waivers | publisher = prohockeyrumors.com | date =  31 August 2021 | accessdate = 31 August 2021 }}</ref> Unclaimed and as a free agent, Chekhovich returned to Torpedo on a one-year contract on the opening day of the [2021–22](/source/2021-22_KHL_season) season on 1 September 2021.<ref>{{cite web | url = https://www.hctorpedo.ru/17053-ivan-chehovich-ostaetsja-v-torpedo.html | title = Ivan Chekhovich continues with Torpedo | publisher = [Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod](/source/Torpedo_Nizhny_Novgorod) | date = 1 September 2021 | accessdate = 1 September 2021 | language = Russian | archive-date = 1 September 2021 | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20210901180819/https://www.hctorpedo.ru/17053-ivan-chehovich-ostaetsja-v-torpedo.html | url-status = dead }}</ref>

On 23 May 2022, Chekhovich left Torpedo as he was traded to fellow KHL club [Lokomotiv Yaroslavl](/source/Lokomotiv_Yaroslavl), in exchange for prospects and financial compensation. He was immediately signed to a three-year contract extension to remain with Lokomotiv until 2025.<ref>{{cite web| url = https://hclokomotiv.ru/article.asp?id=Ivan-Chehovich-v-Lokomotive-8099 | title = Ivan Chekhovich in Lokomotiv | publisher = [Lokomotiv Yaroslavl](/source/Lokomotiv_Yaroslavl) | date = 23 May 2022 | accessdate = 23 May 2022 | language = Russian}}</ref>

With one year remaining on his contract, Chekhovich was traded by Lokomotiv at the commencement of the [2024–25](/source/2024-25_KHL_season) season, to [HC Vityaz](/source/HC_Vityaz), on 6 September 2024.<ref>{{citeweb| url = https://hcvityaz.ru/news.php/?detail=249679 | title = Ivan Chekhovich in Vityaz | publisher = [HC Vityaz](/source/HC_Vityaz) | date = 6 September 2024 | accessdate = 6 September 2024 | language = Russian }}</ref> He played out the season with Vityaz, registering 36 points through 47 regular season games.

With Vityaz withdrawing from the KHL, Chekhovich as a free agent was signed to a two-year contract to continue in the KHL with newly rebranded club, Shanghai Dragons, on 19 August 2025.<ref>{{citeweb| url = https://www.khl.ru/news/2025/08/19/549291.html | title = Duszak, Chekhovich and two more North Americans join Shanghai Dragons | publisher = [Kontinental Hockey League](/source/Kontinental_Hockey_League) | date = 19 August 2025 | accessdate = 19 August 2025 | language = Russian }}</ref>
