# Itigi

**Itigi** is a town in central [Tanzania](/source/Tanzania). It is located in [Itigi District](/source/Itigi_District) of the [Singida Region](/source/Singida_Region).

The town is made up of the wards Itigi and Itigi Majengo. According to the 2012 Tanzania National Census, the population of these two wards combined was 21,777.[1]

## Transport

Unpaved Trunk road T18 from [Manyoni](/source/Manyoni) to [Tabora](/source/Tabora) and unpaved trunk road T22 from [Singida Region](/source/Singida_Region) to [Mbeya Region](/source/Mbeya_Region) pass through the town.[2]

Itigi is a station on the [Central Line](/source/Central_Line_(Tanzania)) of [Tanzanian Railways](/source/Tanzania_Railways_Corporation).

## Fish named after village

*[Nothobranchius itigiensis](/source/Nothobranchius_itigiensis)* [Nagy](/source/B%C3%A9la_Nagy_(ichthyologist)), [Watters](/source/Brian_R._Watters) & [Bellstedt](/source/Dirk_U._Bellstedt), 2020 was named after the village because the fish was origianlly found nearby.[3]
