**Itay Segev** ([Hebrew](/source/Hebrew_language): איתי שגב; born June 15, 1995) is an Israeli professional [basketball](/source/Basketball) player for [Hapoel Tel Aviv](/source/Hapoel_Tel_Aviv_B.C.) of the Israeli [Ligat HaAl](/source/Israeli_Basketball_Premier_League) and the [EuroLeague](/source/EuroLeague). He was named the [Israeli League Most Improved Player](/source/Israeli_Basketball_Super_League_Most_Improved_Player) in 2016.

## Early years

Segev was born in [Kfar Tavor](/source/Kfar_Tavor), Israel. He played for Hapoel Emek Yizra'el youth team and the [Wingate Academy](/source/Wingate_Institute) in his late teens.[1]

## Professional career

On August 8, 2012, Segev started his professional career with [Maccabi Tel Aviv](/source/Maccabi_Tel_Aviv_B.C.), signing a five-year deal.[2]

On August 26, 2013, Segev was loaned to [Hapoel Holon](/source/Hapoel_Holon) for the 2013–14 season.[3] On February 25, 2014, Segev won the [Slam Dunk Contest](/source/2013%E2%80%9314_Israeli_Basketball_Super_League#Slam_Dunk_Contest) during the 2014 Israeli All-Star Event.[4]

On July 24, 2014, Segev was loaned to [Hapoel Gilboa Galil](/source/Hapoel_Gilboa_Galil) for the 2014–15 season.[5]

On August 8, 2015, Maccabi Tel Aviv announced that Segev will be included in their roster of the 2015–16 season.[6] On June 3, 2016, Segev was named [Israeli League Most Improved Player](/source/Israeli_Basketball_Super_League_Most_Improved_Player).[7]

On June 23, 2016, Segev signed a two-year contract extension with Maccabi Tel Aviv.[8]

On September 9, 2017, Segev was named Maccabi's team captain.[9] However, On January 22, 2018, Maccabi announced that he will no longer serve as the team captain after requesting to leave the team.[10]

On June 26, 2018, Segev signed with [Maccabi Rishon LeZion](/source/Maccabi_Rishon_LeZion_(basketball)) for the 2018–19 season.[11] Segev helped Rishon LeZion win the [2018 Israeli League Cup](/source/2018_Israeli_Basketball_League_Cup), as well as reaching the [2019 Israeli League Final](/source/2019_Israeli_Basketball_Premier_League_Final_Four), where they eventually lost to his former team [Maccabi Tel Aviv](/source/Maccabi_Tel_Aviv_B.C.).

On July 15, 2019, Segev signed a one-year deal with [Ironi Nahariya](/source/Ironi_Nahariya).[12]

On June 8, 2020, he signed with [BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque](/source/BCM_Gravelines-Dunkerque) of the French [LNB Pro A](/source/LNB_Pro_A).[13]

On July 11, 2021, he signed with [Hapoel Jerusalem](/source/Hapoel_Jerusalem_B.C.) of the [Israeli Basketball Premier League](/source/Israeli_Basketball_Premier_League) and [Basketball Champions League](/source/Basketball_Champions_League).[14]

In summer 2023, he signed with [Ironi Ness Ziona](/source/Ironi_Ness_Ziona_B.C.) of the [Israeli Basketball Premier League](/source/Israeli_Basketball_Premier_League).

## Israeli national team

Segev was a member of the Israeli Under-16,[15] Under-18 [16] and [Under-20](/source/Israel_national_under-20_basketball_team)[17] national teams. In 2016 He made his first appearance in the Israeli National team.
