The village is situated in the [Silesian Beskids](/source/Silesian_Beskids) mountain range, near the borders with the [Czech Republic](/source/Czech_Republic) and [Slovakia](/source/Slovakia), in the historical region of [Cieszyn Silesia](/source/Cieszyn_Silesia). The [Olza River](/source/Olza_River) flows through the village.
== Etymology ==
The name is cultural in origin, derived from the word {{lang|pl|(j)istba}}, meaning a room in a (especially rural) house (see also [izba](/source/wiktionary%3Aizba)). It is conjectured that the name was conveyed by settlers from [Istebné](/source/Istebn%C3%A9) who supposedly established the village. == History ==

After [World War I](/source/World_War_I), the fall of [Austria-Hungary](/source/Austria-Hungary), the [Polish–Czechoslovak War](/source/Polish%E2%80%93Czechoslovak_War) and the division of [Cieszyn Silesia](/source/Cieszyn_Silesia) in 1920, it became a part of [Poland](/source/Second_Polish_Republic) and was transferred to Cieszyn County. It was then [annexed](/source/Polish_areas_annexed_by_Nazi_Germany) by [Nazi Germany](/source/Nazi_Germany) at the beginning of [World War II](/source/World_War_II).
