# Issachar Plateau

The '''Issachar Plateau''' or '''Issachar Heights''' ({{langx|he|רמת יששכר|'''Ramat Yissaḫar/Ramot Yissaḫar'''}}) is a [basalt](/source/basalt) [plateau](/source/plateau) in the eastern part of [Lower Galilee](/source/Lower_Galilee). 
It is bounded by the [Tabor Stream](/source/Tabor_Stream) in the north and the [Harod Valley](/source/Harod_Valley) in the south and  [Givat HaMoreh](/source/Givat_HaMoreh)  in the west and the [Jordan Valley](/source/Jordan_Valley) in the east. The plateau is named after the [Tribe of Issachar](/source/Tribe_of_Issachar).

The {{ill|Issachar River|he|נחל יששכר}} runs across the plateau into the Jordan Valley.<ref name=beal/>

The plateau may be divided into three parts: רמת כוכב (Ramat Kochav, "Plateau of Stars"), רמת צבאים (Ramat Tzevaim "Plateau of Gazelles"; due to the population of [Palestine mountain gazelle](/source/Palestine_mountain_gazelle) in the plateau<ref>[https://www.haaretz.co.il/science/1.1159157 קהילת הצבאים בארץ נמצאת במגמת ירידה, במיוחד ברמת הגולן], ''[Ha'aretz](/source/Ha'aretz)'',  January 27, 2011</ref>), and ורמת תבור (Ramat Tavor, "Plateau of [Tabor](/source/Mount_Tabor)), with Issachar River separating Ramat Tzevaim from Ramat Kochav. Therefore, it is also referred in plural.

The [Belvoir Castle](/source/Belvoir_Castle_(Israel)) [national park](/source/national_park) and [archeological site](/source/archeological_site) is a  [Crusader castle](/source/List_of_Crusader_castles) on the eastern edge of the plateau, on the edge of Lower Galilee between the [Sea of Galilee](/source/Sea_of_Galilee) (20&nbsp;km southwards) and [Beit She'an](/source/Beit_She'an).
