# Israel Laryea

**Israel Laryea** (born 7 October 1974) is a [Ghanaian](/source/Ghana) [broadcast journalist](/source/Broadcast_journalist), news editor and anchor and programme host with [Multimedia Group Ltd](/source/Multimedia_Group_Limited) (JoyNews Television).[1][2][3]

## Education

Israel attended Osu Presbyterian Preparatory School (OPPS) in Osu. He then had his GCE 'O' Level certificate from [Okuapeman School](/source/Okuapeman_School) before undertaking the sixth form at [Accra Academy](/source/Accra_Academy). He later attended the [Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA)](/source/Ghana_Institute_of_Management_and_Public_Administration), where he attained a [Bachelor of Arts (BA)](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) degree.[4]

## Career

Israel begun working in the broadcasting space with [TV3](/source/TV3_Ghana) in 1999. After working with [TV3](/source/TV3_Ghana) for sometime, he moved on to [Multimedia Group Limited](/source/Multimedia_Group_Limited) working with the late [Komla Dumor](/source/Komla_Dumor). For a period, Israel worked for both [Multimedia Group Limited](/source/Multimedia_Group_Limited) and [TV3](/source/TV3_Ghana), before finally moving back to [Multimedia Group Limited](/source/Multimedia_Group_Limited).[4]

Israel, along with [Professor Ivan Addae Mensah](/source/Ivan_Addae_Mensah) moderated the 2008 Presidential Debate II between the [NPP](/source/New_Patriotic_Party), [NDC](/source/National_Democratic_Congress_(Ghana)), [CPP](/source/Convention_People's_Party) and [PNC](/source/People's_National_Convention_(Ghana)).[5]

The 13th [CNN](/source/CNN) [Multichoice](/source/MultiChoice) African Journalists Awards in 2008, nominated Israel Laryea (Joy FM) and Daniel Nkrumah (Daily Graphic) as finalists, among 21 other [African](/source/Africa) journalists. The awards ceremony was held in Ghana in July 2008. He participated in the CNN Journalism Fellowship at the [CNN Centre](/source/CNN_Center) in [Atlanta](/source/Atlanta), [USA](/source/United_States).[6]

Due to the [coronavirus pandemic](/source/COVID-19_pandemic) in 2020, Israel anchored the news from home, in a bid to encourage working from home.[7]

## Personal life

Israel is married to Louisa and they have three (3) children.[7]
