# Ishmael Yartey

**Ishmael Yartey** (born 11 January 1990) is a Ghanaian professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [left midfielder](/source/Left_midfielder) or [left winger](/source/Winger_(association_football)) for [Syra Mensdorf](/source/Syra_Mensdorf).[1]

## Club career

Yartey began his youth and professional career with Ghanaian club [All Blacks F.C.](/source/All_Blacks_F.C.), before joining [S.L. Benfica](/source/S.L._Benfica) on a one-year loan deal with a buy option at the end of the [contract](/source/Association_football_contracts).[2] Former Benfica manager [Quique Flores](/source/Quique_Flores) was the first manager that called Yartey to train with the senior squad, but he never debuted for the first team.[3]

On 15 July 2009, Yartey left Benfica and signed a one-year [loan](/source/Loan_(sports)) deal with [S.C. Beira Mar](/source/S.C._Beira_Mar). At the end of the season he signed for [C.D. Fátima](/source/C.D._F%C3%A1tima), on another one-year loan.[4] In January 2011 he was loaned to Beira-Mar for a second time, for the remainder of the [2010–11 Primeira Liga](/source/2010%E2%80%9311_Primeira_Liga) season.[5]

On 21 June 2011, he was again loaned, this time to [Servette F.C.](/source/Servette_F.C.) of the [Swiss Super League](/source/Swiss_Super_League) until the end of the [2011–12 Swiss Super League](/source/2011%E2%80%9312_Swiss_Super_League).[6]

On 19 July 2012, after returning to Benfica from his Servette loan, Yartey signed a four-year contract with French [Ligue 1](/source/Ligue_1) club [FC Sochaux-Montbéliard](/source/FC_Sochaux-Montb%C3%A9liard).

On 26 March 2015, Yartey signed a loan contract with [Portland Timbers](/source/Portland_Timbers) of [MLS](/source/MLS) with a transfer option from French Ligue 1 club FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.[7]

Yartey completed his move to Finnish top-flight side KPV Kokkola in July 2019.[8] He scored on his competitive debut for KPV.[9] He was voted the MVP on his debut game for [KPV](/source/Kokkolan_Palloveikot).[10] Yartey also won the Man of the Match Award against giants HJK Helsinki.[11] In that game he scored a wonderful goal for KPV.[12]

In January 2020, Yartey signed for Saudi side [Hetten FC](/source/Hetten_FC).[13]

In February 2021, Yartey signed for Finland [Veikkausliiga](/source/Veikkausliiga) side [FC Haka](/source/FC_Haka).[14] He scored two goals in March 2021 in pre-season friendly games for Haka.[15][16] In January 2022, Yartey signed for [Bahrain Premier League](/source/Bahraini_Premier_League) side [Al Hidd Club](/source/Hidd_SCC) after leaving Haka.

In August 2022, Yartey returned to [KPV](/source/Kokkolan_Palloveikot) until the end of the 2022 season.[17]

## International career

Yartey represented [Ghana U-17](/source/Ghana_national_under-17_football_team) (Black Starlets) in the [2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup](/source/2007_FIFA_U-17_World_Cup) in [Korea Republic](/source/Korea_Republic).[18]

On 16 May 2012, Yartey was called up for two of the [Ghana national team](/source/Ghana_national_football_team)'s [2014 FIFA World Cup qualifications](/source/2014_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%E2%80%93_CAF_second_round), against Lesotho in [Kumasi, Ashanti](/source/Kumasi), Ghana, and on 1 June 2012 and against Zambia in [Ndola, Copperbelt Province](/source/Ndola), Zambia, on 9 June 2012.[19]
