==Biography==
Isaac Spitz was born in [Kolín](/source/Kol%C3%ADn), [Kingdom of Bohemia](/source/Kingdom_of_Bohemia), the son of a [Torah scribe](/source/Sofer). He left for [Prague](/source/Prague) in 1779 to study at the [yeshiva](/source/yeshiva) of [Yechezkel Landau](/source/Yechezkel_Landau), during which time he studied [Hebrew language](/source/Hebrew_language) and [literature](/source/Hebrew_literature) as well as [Mendelssohn](/source/Moses_Mendelssohn)'s and [Lessing](/source/Gotthold_Ephraim_Lessing)'s writings. He moved to [Fürth](/source/F%C3%BCrth) in 1785 to the yeshiva of Meshullam Solomon Kohn, and was [ordained](/source/Semikhah) by the local [beit din](/source/Beth_din) in 1792. He returned to Kolin as a pupil of Eleazar Kalir and teacher in the house of Adam Friedländer,{{r|brocke_carlebach}} and married Rebekka Fleckeles, daughter of [Elazar Fleckeles](/source/Elazar_Fleckeles).{{r|fleckeles}}
