Soviet composer

**Iona Tuskiya** (1901–1963)[1] was a [Soviet](/source/Soviet_Union) composer from [Georgia SSR](/source/Georgia_SSR). He composed music for various movies, such as *[Eliso](/source/Eliso)* in 1928.[2] In 1943, he along with several other composers, had entries for a contest to find out what song should be chosen as the [National Anthem of the Soviet Union](/source/National_Anthem_of_the_Soviet_Union); the contest was eventually won by [Alexander Alexandrov](/source/Alexander_Vasilyevich_Alexandrov).[3] His students included composers [Vaja Azarashvili](https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaja_Azarashvili),[4] [Dagmara Slianova-Mizandari](/source/Dagmara_Slianova-Mizandari)[5] and [Tamara Antonovna Shaverzashvili](/source/Tamara_Antonovna_Shaverzashvili).[6]
