'''Inverpolly''' is the name given to a large area of northern [Wester Ross](/source/Wester_Ross) in the [Northwest Highlands](/source/Northwest_Highlands) of [Scotland](/source/Scotland), north of [Ullapool](/source/Ullapool). The area contains several prominent hills, rising up from a rough landscape of [bog](/source/bog)s and [loch](/source/loch)ans. From 1961, the area was designated [national nature reserve](/source/national_nature_reserve_(Scotland))<ref>{{cite web |last1=Gittings |first1=Bruce |last2=Munro |first2=David |title=Inverpolly National Nature Reserve |url=https://www.scottish-places.info/features/featurefirst8021.html |website=The Gazetteer for Scotland |publisher=School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh and The Royal Scottish Geographical Society |accessdate=16 August 2022}}</ref> but since 2004, the designation has been limited to the area of [Knockan Crag](/source/Knockan_Crag). The area supports a large number of high-quality freshwater loch habitats, the majority of which are [oligotrophic](/source/oligotroph).<ref>{{cite web |title=Inverpolly |url=https://sac.jncc.gov.uk/site/UK0030171 |website=Joint Nature Conservation Committee |access-date=16 August 2022 |location=Peterborough}}</ref> Major peaks in the area include [Stac Pollaidh](/source/Stac_Pollaidh), [Cul Mòr](/source/Cul_M%C3%B2r), [Cul Beag](/source/Cul_Beag). At the heart of Inverpolly lies the large irregular shaped [Loch Sionascaig](/source/Loch_Sionascaig).<ref>{{cite web |last1=Gittings |first1=Bruce |last2=Munro |first2=David |title=Loch Sionascaig |url=https://www.scottish-places.info/features/featurefirst2314.html |website=The Gazetteer for Scotland |publisher=School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh and The Royal Scottish Geographical Society |accessdate=16 August 2022}}</ref>
