# Intevac

**Intevac, Inc.** was a producer of [thin film](/source/Thin_film) deposition systems and equipment for making [hard disk drives](/source/Hard_disk_drive).[1] Headquartered in [Silicon Valley](/source/Silicon_Valley) in [Santa Clara, California](/source/Santa_Clara,_California),[2] it also had offices in [China](/source/China), [Malaysia](/source/Malaysia), and [Singapore](/source/Singapore).[3]

Founded in 1991 as a spin-off of [Varian Associates](/source/Varian_Associates), the company went public four years later and reported having $13.8 million in revenue in the first half of 2022.[4] In January 2022, the American firm divested its photonics business to Eotech for over $70 million.[5]

In February 2025, hard disk drive maker [Seagate Technology](/source/Seagate_Technology) announced it would acquire Intevac for $119 million in an all-cash deal.[6] The purchase was completed a month later.[7]
