The Interstate spur route is a portion of Paris Road, a [New Orleans metropolitan area](/source/New_Orleans_metropolitan_area) roadway stretching from the [Mississippi River](/source/Mississippi_River) to [Lake Pontchartrain](/source/Lake_Pontchartrain) dating back to the 19th century. The spur serves the NASA facility, the [St. Bernard Parish](/source/St._Bernard_Parish) seat of [Chalmette](/source/Chalmette%2C_Louisiana) (though the interstate portion ends a few miles north of the city, the highway continues as Paris Road), and the former [Six Flags New Orleans](/source/Six_Flags_New_Orleans).
