# Interscript

Rich text document markup language designed by Xerox

**Interscript** was a [rich text](/source/Rich_text) [document markup language](/source/Document_markup_language) designed by [Xerox](/source/Xerox) to act as a common interchange format between disparate document formats.[1] It was part of a system that included the [Xerox Character Code Standard](/source/Xerox_Character_Code_Standard) (XCCS) and the [InterPress](/source/InterPress) page description representation.[2]
