**Internal Void** is an American [doom metal](/source/Doom_metal) band from [Frederick, Maryland](/source/Frederick%2C_Maryland).[1]

## Biography

Internal Void came together in 1987 after Kelly Carmichael, Eric Little and Adam Heinzmann attended a [Saint Vitus](/source/Saint_Vitus_(band)) concert.[2][3] The band later recruited J.D. Williams as a vocalist[2] and put out two demo recordings in the late 80s/early 90s (*Voyage* and *Smokestack*).[3][4] [Hellhound Records](/source/Hellhound_Records) picked them up in the early 90s along with several other Maryland doom bands ([The Obsessed](/source/The_Obsessed), [Wretched](/source/Wretched_(doom_metal_band)), [Unorthodox](/source/Unorthodox_(band)), [Iron Man](/source/Iron_Man_(band)), [Revelation](/source/Revelation_(band))). They had two songs featured on the Hellhound sampler *What the Hell!* in 1991. In 1993 they released their debut album, *Standing on the Sun*. This would prompt a nationwide tour with label-mates [Saint Vitus](/source/Saint_Vitus_(band)).[4] Not much was heard from the band after Hellhound's demise until 2000, when [Southern Lord Records](/source/Southern_Lord_Records) released the band's second album, *Unearthed*, and a split single with Italian doom artist Paul Chain. By this time original drummer Eric Little had been replaced with former Unorthodox drummer Ronnie Kalimon.[1] Kalimon would later be replaced by doom veteran Mike Smail ([Cathedral](/source/Cathedral_(band)), Dream Death, [Penance](/source/Penance_(band)))[1] and in 2004 the band self-released their latest album, *Matricide*. Internal Void have appeared on numerous tribute albums, included albums dedicated [Saint Vitus](/source/Saint_Vitus_(band)), [Blue Cheer](/source/Blue_Cheer), and Italy's [Death SS](/source/Death_SS).

Carmichael, Heinzmann and Smail all joined [Pentagram](/source/Pentagram_(band)) in 2004 and are featured on Pentagram's album, *[Show 'Em How](/source/Show_'Em_How)*.[1][5]
