## History

The alliance was formed in November 2014 by former [National Forces of Liberation](/source/National_Forces_of_Liberation) leader [Agathon Rwasa](/source/Agathon_Rwasa) and former [Union for National Progress](/source/Union_for_National_Progress) head [Charles Nditije](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Charles_Nditije&action=edit&redlink=1) after they were expelled from their parties.[1][2] In the [June 2015 parliamentary elections](/source/Burundian_legislative_election%2C_2015) it received 11% of the vote, winning 21 of the 100 elected seats in the [National Assembly](/source/National_Assembly_(Burundi)). In the [July 2015 presidential elections](/source/Burundian_presidential_election%2C_2015) the alliance nominated Rwasa as its candidate. He finished second to incumbent [Pierre Nkurunziza](/source/Pierre_Nkurunziza) with 19% of the vote.

The alliance was included in the government formed by Nkurunziza, with five of the 20 positions in the cabinet.[3]
