***In Sound Mind*** is a 2021 [psychological horror game](/source/Psychological_horror_game) developed by We Create Stuff and published by [Modus Games](/source/Modus_Games).

## Gameplay

Players control Desmond Wales, a [therapist](/source/Therapist) who can enter alternate dimensions when listening to [tape recordings](/source/Tape_recording) of his clients. Each of Wales' clients has their own unique [level](/source/Level_(video_games)) based on their fears and [psychoses](/source/Psychosis). Within each level, players fight monsters and solve puzzles.[2] The ultimate goal is to solve Wales' own [amnesia](/source/Amnesia).[3]

## Development

The developer, [Israel](/source/Israel)-based[4] studio We Create Stuff, previously made the *[Half-Life 2](/source/Half-Life_2)* mod "[Nightmare House 2](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Nightmare_House_2&action=edit&redlink=1)".[5] [Modus Games](/source/Modus_Games) released it for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on September 28, 2021. It was ported to Switch on October 11, 2022.[6] The [electronic rock](/source/Electronic_rock) band and YouTube channel [The Living Tombstone](/source/The_Living_Tombstone) created the soundtrack for the game.[2]

Reviews

Aggregate score Aggregator Score Metacritic PC: 75/100[7]

On [Metacritic](/source/Metacritic), *In Sound Mind* received positive reviews on Windows and Xbox Series X/S, but the PlayStation 5 version received mixed reviews.[7] *[PC Gamer](/source/PC_Gamer)* said it was competently made but felt it is a retread of previous [psychological horror](/source/Psychological_horror) video games.[3] *[Bloody Disgusting](/source/Bloody_Disgusting)* felt that *In Sound Mind* used familiar tropes in a better way than many other games, making it a memorable game and a solid debut.[8]
