**Imperio Club de Fútbol** was a [Spanish football club](/source/List_of_football_clubs_in_Spain) based in [Madrid](/source/Madrid).

## History

Founded in 1923 under the name of **Imperio Foot-Ball Club**, the club changed its name to **Imperio Club de Fútbol** in 1940 due to the new language rules in all country.

After the [Spanish Civil War](/source/Spanish_Civil_War) ended in 1939, the Imperio CF reorganized and created a new board with the aim of competing in the Castilla Championship. The team's greatest achievement was competing in Spain's [Segunda División](/source/Segunda_Divisi%C3%B3n) for one season in [1939–40 season](/source/1939%E2%80%9340_Segunda_Divisi%C3%B3n), under coach [José Quirante](/source/Jos%C3%A9_Quirante), and with the likes of [Ramón Colón](/source/Ram%C3%B3n_Col%C3%B3n), [Antonio Muñoz](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Antonio_Mu%C3%B1oz_(footballer)&action=edit&redlink=1), and [Cuestita](/source/Ciriaco_Cuesta), which ended in relegation.[1] Imperio's members, aware of the delicate nature of the moment and in need of financial aid, know how to move quickly and skillfully, establishing contacts with the recently merged [Athletic-Aviación Club](/source/Club_Aviaci%C3%B3n_Nacional), the future [Atlético Madrid](/source/Atl%C3%A9tico_Madrid).[2] Seeing the potential resources that this club has, Ángel Lehoz, Luis Mesa, Ventura Miguel, and Gregorio Lázaro arrange a meeting with the Atlético's [Manuel Gallego](/source/Manuel_Gallego), and [Juan Touzón](/source/Juan_Touz%C3%B3n), and Imperio FC is declared a colchonero subsidiary with Ángel Lehoz as president.[2]

In 1943 the club achieved promotion to [Tercera División](/source/Tercera_Divisi%C3%B3n), but folded after four years. In its first season in the Third Division in 1943–44, Imperio, then coached by [Luis Urquiri](/source/Luis_Urquiri),[3] participated for the first time in the [1944 Copa del Generalísimo](/source/1944_Copa_del_General%C3%ADsimo), beating [CD Toledo](/source/CD_Toledo) (9–0), [RSD Alcalá](/source/RSD_Alcal%C3%A1) (1–2), and [CD Acero](/source/CD_Acero) in the previous qualifying rounds to be eliminated by [Albacete Balompié](/source/Albacete_Balompi%C3%A9) in fifth round (1–4 on aggregate).[4]
