At age 5, he started private lessons with [Leon Pfeifer](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Leon_Pfeifer&action=edit&redlink=1) [[sl](https://sl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leon_Pfeifer)], a former student of [Otakar Ševčík](/source/Otakar_%C5%A0ev%C4%8D%C3%ADk), at the [Academy of Music, Ljubljana](/source/Academy_of_Music%2C_Ljubljana). He entered Pfeifer's class at the Academy when he was 8.[1]

In 1949 he was awarded a [British Council](/source/British_Council) scholarship to study in the United Kingdom. In 1951 Ozim won the [International Carl Flesch Violin Competition](/source/International_Carl_Flesch_Violin_Competition), making his [Wigmore Hall](/source/Wigmore_Hall) debut recital shortly afterwards.[1] His concerto debut was the [Mendelssohn](/source/Felix_Mendelssohn) [Violin Concerto in E minor](/source/Violin_Concerto_(Mendelssohn)), with the [Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra](/source/Liverpool_Philharmonic_Orchestra) under [Hugo Rignold](/source/Hugo_Rignold).[1]
