# Ignazio Busca

**Ignazio Busca** (31 August 1731 – 12 August 1803) was an Italian Catholic prelate who served as [Secretary of State](/source/Cardinal_Secretary_of_State) of the [Holy See](/source/Holy_See). He was made a cardinal in 1789

## Biography

Busca was born in Milan as the last son of Lodovico Busca, marquess of [Lomagna](/source/Lomagna) and Bianca Arconati Visconti. he took a degree in *[utroque iure](/source/Utroque_iure)* in 1759 at the *[Università La Sapienza](/source/La_Sapienza_University)* of [Rome](/source/Rome). Relator of the Sacred Consulta and referendary of the tribunal of the [Apostolic Signature](/source/Apostolic_Signature), he was ordained priest on 20 August 1775.

Elected [titular archbishop](/source/Titular_archbishop) of [Emesa](/source/Emesa), he was consecrated on 17 September 1775 in [Frascati](/source/Frascati), by [Henry Benedict Stuart](/source/Henry_Benedict_Stuart). He was apostolic nuncio in [Flanders](/source/Flanders) and apostolic vicar for [Netherlands](/source/Netherlands) from 1776 to 1785 and later was governor of Rome from 1785 until 1789. Created cardinal in the [consistory](/source/Papal_consistory) of 30 March 1789, he received the [Galero](/source/Galero) and the [title](/source/Title) of *[Santa Maria della Pace](/source/Santa_Maria_della_Pace)* on 3 August 1789. He was appointed Secretary of State by [Pope Pius VI](/source/Pope_Pius_VI) in 1796. He participated in the [conclave of 1800](/source/Papal_conclave,_1800).

He died in 1803 in Rome.
