# Ido Bachelet

**Ido Bachelet** (Hebrew: עידו בצלת) is an Israeli-Chilean scientist.[1]

## Education

Bachelet earned his [Ph.D](/source/Ph.D). in medical sciences from the [Hebrew University in Jerusalem](/source/Hebrew_University_in_Jerusalem), and did two postdoctoral fellowships, engineering at [M.I.T](/source/M.I.T). and biologically inspired engineering at the [George Church](/source/George_M._Church) lab at [Harvard University](/source/Harvard_University).[2] His fields of expertise include [DNA origami](/source/DNA_origami), [synthetic biology](/source/Synthetic_biology), and [biomimetics](/source/Biomimetics). He taught life sciences at [Bar-Ilan University](/source/Bar-Ilan_University) and industrial design at the [Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design](/source/Bezalel_Academy_of_Arts_and_Design) in Jerusalem. His research on bio-inspired architecture was selected to represent Israel at the 16th [Venice Biennale of Architecture](/source/Venice_Biennale_of_Architecture).

## Research

Bachelet is known for his contribution to the fields of DNA origami, [nanotechnology](/source/Nanotechnology), and [nanorobotics](/source/Nanorobotics). His paper "A logic-gated nanorobot for targeted transport of molecular payloads",[2] which deals with nanoscale robots' ability to kill cancer cells, created an important interface between the field of DNA origami and medicine. Recently, Bachelet raised the hypothesis of [ribozyme mass extinction](/source/Ribozyme_mass_extinction), and described intact nucleic acids found in the [Zag meteorite](/source/Zag_meteorite).

## Personal life

Bachelet, born in Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak to Uri and Shelly,[3] lives in [Boston](/source/Boston) and [Israel](/source/Israel). His cousin, [Michelle Bachelet](/source/Michelle_Bachelet) is the former two-term President of Chile.[4]
