**Idiji Glacier** is one of several [glaciers](/source/Glacier) draining the eastern side of the [Mount Edziza](/source/Mount_Edziza) [ice cap](/source/Ice_cap) in northwestern [British Columbia](/source/British_Columbia), Canada. It is located south of the summit of Mount Edziza in a [cirque](/source/Cirque) just southeast of [Ice Peak](/source/Ice_Peak). Idiji Glacier is separated from the much larger [Tencho Glacier](/source/Tencho_Glacier) by a [ridge](/source/Ridge) that extends south of Ice Peak above the Idiji cirque [headwall](/source/Headwall). Idiji Glacier is the namesake of [Idiji Ridge](/source/Idiji_Ridge) which is just to the southeast.[2]

The name of the glacier was suggested by the [Geological Survey of Canada](/source/Geological_Survey_of_Canada) on November 15, 1979, and eventually became official on November 24, 1980. *Idiji* means "it thunders" in the [Tahltan language](/source/Tahltan_language), which refers to the loud noises stemming from this very active glacier.[1]

At the head of Idiji Glacier are rocks assigned to the upper assemblage of the Ice Peak Formation. They consist of [trachyte](/source/Trachyte), [benmoreite](/source/Benmoreite), [mugearite](/source/Mugearite), [tristanite](/source/Tristanite), [trachybasalt](/source/Trachybasalt) and [alkali basalt](/source/Alkali_basalt) that are in the form of lava flows, [lava domes](/source/Lava_dome) and [pyroclastic](/source/Pyroclastic_rock) [breccia](/source/Breccia).[2] [Bedded](/source/Bed_(geology)), [lacustrine](/source/Lacustrine) [tuff](/source/Tuff) and epiclastic debris exposed in a rock spur on the north side of Idiji Glacier was deposited in a now-destroyed summit [crater](/source/Volcanic_crater), of which Ice Peak is a remnant of the western crater rim.[3][4]
