**Identiv** (originally **SCM Microsystems**) is a publicly traded [Internet of Things](/source/Internet_of_Things) [technology](/source/Technology) company listed on the [Nasdaq](/source/Nasdaq) stock market.[1][2]

Identiv provides [physical](/source/Electronic_hardware) and [digital](/source/Software) products utilizing [radio frequency identification](/source/Radio_frequency_identification) (RFID) subsets such as [near field communication](/source/Near_field_communication) (NFC),[2] [Bluetooth low-energy](/source/Bluetooth_Low_Energy) (BLE) as well as others.[3] The company is focused on Internet of Things (IoT) applications.[4] The company has customers in the [government](/source/Government), [enterprise](/source/Business), [consumer](/source/Consumer), [education](/source/Education), [healthcare](/source/Healthcare) and [transportation](/source/Transportation) sectors.[5]

## History

Identiv was founded in 1990 in Munich, Germany as *SCM Microsystems GmbH*. It received [venture capital](/source/Venture_capital) from [Index Ventures](/source/Index_Ventures)[7] and made its [initial public offering](/source/Initial_public_offering) on the Nasdaq stock market in 1997, then headquartered in California, USA.[8]

In 2009, SCM Microsystems merged with *Hirsch Electronics*[9] and acquired *Bluehill ID*. The new combination was renamed to *Identive Group*, shortened to *Identiv* in 2014.[10][6] In 2018, Identiv acquired *Thursby Software Systems*[11] and *3VR*.[12] In 2025, Identiv collaborated with [IFCO](/source/International_Food_Container_Organization) to enhance digital traceability in the global fresh grocery supply chain,[13] and with Novanta to advance RFID technology adoption for healthcare OEMs.[14]
