# Ida Bachmann

**Ida Bachmann** (1900–1995) was a Danish librarian and journalist who is known for her feminist activities. She was a member of the Commission of the [Women's International Democratic Federation](/source/Women's_International_Democratic_Federation) (WIDF) and served as its vice president.

## Biography

She was born in 1900.[1] She worked as a librarian in [Kolding](/source/Kolding).[1] She was a member of the WIDF.[2] Following the occupation of Denmark by [Nazi Germany](/source/Nazi_Germany) during [World War II](/source/World_War_II) she left Denmark for the USA.[2] There she worked at the US War Information Office.[2] She was also involved in other journalist activities in the USA.[1] Following her return to Denmark she published a book, *America! America!*, on her US experience in 1947[3] and continued to serve as a head librarian.[4]

Bachmann and [Kate Fleron](/source/Kate_Fleron) visited North Korea along with representatives from other countries in 1951 during the [Korean War](/source/Korean_War).[2][4] The same year Bachman was elected as the vice president of the Women's International Democratic Federation in a meeting held in China.[2][5]

Bachmann died in 1995.[1]
