American experimental music project

**Icy Demons** is an experimental music project started by [Bablicon](/source/Bablicon)'s Griffin Rodriguez (credited as Blue Hawaii) and [Man Man](/source/Man_Man) / [Need New Body](/source/Need_New_Body)'s [Christopher Powell](/source/Christopher_Powell_(musician)) (Pow Pow).[1] A project of various Chicago musicians, they have released three albums, *Fight Back!* on the [Elephant 6](/source/The_Elephant_6_Recording_Company)-associated label [Cloud Recordings](/source/Cloud_Recordings), *Tears of a Clone* on Eastern Developments Music, and *Miami Ice* on the label started by Rodriguez and Powell called Obey Your Brain.

## Influences and style

Demons can be seen as a continuation of the [Canterbury scene](/source/Canterbury_scene), which involved acts like [Soft Machine](/source/Soft_Machine) and [Robert Wyatt](/source/Robert_Wyatt). They do, however, move into new ground by mixing this Canterbury style with a noticeable [Krautrock](/source/Krautrock) influence, especially that of [Can](/source/Can_(band)).[2] Some melodic lines and rhythmic patterns are strongly reminiscent of [Frank Zappa](/source/Frank_Zappa)'s compositions. Other similar acts include [Aksak Maboul](/source/Aksak_Maboul), [Pit er Pat](/source/Pit_er_Pat), Pop-off Tuesday, [Lightning Bolt](/source/Lightning_Bolt_(band)), and [Cheer-Accident](/source/Cheer-Accident).
