# Ian Hopkinson

**Ian John Hopkinson** (born 19 October 1950) is an English former [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [forward](/source/Forward_(association_football)) in [the Football League](/source/The_Football_League) for [Barrow](/source/Barrow_A.F.C.), [Workington](/source/Workington_A.F.C.) and [Darlington](/source/Darlington_F.C.), and in the [Scottish League](/source/Scottish_Football_League) for [Berwick Rangers](/source/Berwick_Rangers_F.C.). He began his career as an apprentice with [Newcastle United](/source/Newcastle_United), and also played [non-league football](/source/Non-league_football) for [North Shields](/source/North_Shields_F.C.)[2] and [Gateshead United](/source/South_Shields_F.C._(1936)).[3]
