# IROC XXI

**IROC XXI** was the twenty-first season of the [International Race of Champions](/source/International_Race_of_Champions), which started on February 17, 1997. The series used identically prepared [Pontiac Firebird](/source/Pontiac_Firebird) Trans Am race cars, and contested races at [Daytona International Speedway](/source/Daytona_International_Speedway), [Charlotte Motor Speedway](/source/Charlotte_Motor_Speedway), [California Speedway](/source/California_Speedway), and [Michigan International Speedway](/source/Michigan_International_Speedway). [Mark Martin](/source/Mark_Martin_(NASCAR)) won $225,000 and the IROC championship, his second straight win and third in four seasons.
