==History==
Indecopi was created by Decree Law No. 25868 in the government of [Alberto Fujimori](/source/Alberto_Fujimori) as part of the economic reforms for the private sector. Initially the institution was attached to the [Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Integration and International Trade Negotiations](/source/Ministry_of_Foreign_Trade_and_Tourism_(Peru)) (MITINCI), but in 2005 it became an autonomous entity and was assigned to the [Presidency of the Council of Ministers](/source/Prime_Minister_of_Peru).<ref>{{Cite book |title=El Estado y los empresarios en la historia económica del Perú independiente |last1=Contreras |first1=Carlos |publisher=[Nudos de la República.
