The Information Management Resource Kit (**IMARK**) is a partnership-based [e-learning](/source/E-learning) initiative developed by the [Food and Agriculture Organization](/source/Food_and_Agriculture_Organization) (FAO) of the [United Nations](/source/United_Nations) and partner organizations to support individuals, institutions and networks worldwide in the effective management of information and agricultural development. IMARK consists of a suite of [distance learning](/source/Distance_learning) resources and tools on [information management](/source/Information_management).[1][2][3]

## About IMARK

The [Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)](/source/Food_and_Agriculture_Organization) of the [United Nations](/source/United_Nations) initiated a partnership-based [e-learning](/source/E-learning) programme in 2001 to support [information management](/source/Information_management).[4] IMARK is targeted at information professionals in developing countries. Each IMARK curriculum is designed through a consultative process with [subject matter experts](/source/Subject-matter_expert), field practitioners and representatives from the target audience from around the world. The IMARK initiative is a response to demand for enhanced information and [knowledge management](/source/Knowledge_management) in the effort to achieve the [Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)](/source/Millennium_Development_Goals), especially those related to [hunger](/source/Hunger) and the information society, in the context of bridging the digital divide.[5] The development goal of IMARK is to improve the capabilities of people concerned with [information management](/source/Information_management) and [knowledge sharing](/source/Knowledge_sharing).[6][7][8]

### Objectives and Scope

The development goal of IMARK is to improve the overall effectiveness of programmes in agricultural development and [food security](/source/Food_security) by enhancing access to information by key stakeholders.[9]

### Steering committee

IMARK has over 30 partners and collaborating institutions since its inception in 2001, and its activities are coordinated through a steering committee whose members include [The Association for Progressive Communications (APC)](/source/Association_for_Progressive_Communications), [Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)](/source/Food_and_Agriculture_Organization) of the [United Nations](/source/United_Nations), the [Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF)](/source/Agence_universitaire_de_la_Francophonie), [Commonwealth of Learning (COL)](/source/Commonwealth_of_Learning), [Groupe de Recherches et d'Echanges Technologiques (GRET)](/source/Groupe_de_Recherches_et_d'Echanges_Technologiques), [Bibliotheca Alexandrina](/source/Bibliotheca_Alexandrina) and [UNESCO](/source/UNESCO).[10][11][12][13]
