***I, Lovett*** is a [BBC](/source/BBC) television [sitcom](/source/Sitcom) written by [Norman Lovett](/source/Norman_Lovett) and [Ian Pattison](/source/Ian_Pattison). Seven episodes were broadcast, a [pilot](/source/Television_pilot) on 9 June 1989 and a six-episode series between 24 March and 28 April 1993.[1][2]

## Plot

The series stars Norman Lovett playing a version of himself who is an inventor living in a world of [surrealism](/source/Surrealism) with his talking dog, voiced by [Geoffrey Hughes](/source/Geoffrey_Hughes_(actor)); a spider, voiced by [Mary Riggans](/source/Mary_Riggans); and inanimate objects.[2]

## Production

In 1989 a one-off pilot episode[1] was made for the [anthology series](/source/Anthology_series) *Comic Asides*, the BBC commissioned a full series which was broadcast four years later in 1993.[2] In total of seven episodes were made each one was shown on [BBC2](/source/BBC_Two), directed by [Ron Bain](/source/Ron_Bain) and produced by [Colin Gilbert](/source/Colin_Gilbert).[3]
