# Hyobanche

***Hyobanche*** are a genus of flowering plants in the broomrape family [Orobanchaceae](/source/Orobanchaceae), native to southern Africa. They are root parasites that cannot perform photosynthesis, and are only observed above ground when flowering.[2]
