Composed in 1830 by [Rowland Prichard](/source/Rowland_Prichard), it was originally published in the composer's handbook to the Welsh children's songbook {{lang|cy|Cyfaill y Cantorion}} ("The Singers' Friend"). ==Metre and arrangement==
Hyfrydol has a [metre](/source/metre_(hymn)) of 8.7.8.7.D (alternating lines of eight and seven syllables, usually in [trochaic feet](/source/trochee), other examples of which include [Blaenwern](/source/Blaenwern) and [Abbots Leigh](/source/Abbots_Leigh)<ref>{{cite web |title=87.87.D.
