# Hurd Ice Cap

**Hurd Ice Cap** is the ice cap covering the central area of southern [Hurd Peninsula](/source/Hurd_Peninsula), [Livingston Island](/source/Livingston_Island) in the [South Shetland Islands](/source/South_Shetland_Islands), [Antarctica](/source/Antarctica). It extends 4.5 km in northeast–southwest direction and 3.7 km in northwest–southeast direction, and drains both into [South Bay](/source/South_Bay,_Livingston_Island) to the northwest and into [False Bay](/source/False_Bay,_Livingston_Island) to the southeast. Its summit point has been nicknamed *Dorotea* by personnel of the nearby Spanish base [Juan Carlos Primero](/source/Juan_Carlos_I_Antarctic_Base) and rises to 332 m.

The feature receives its name from Hurd Peninsula.

Dorotea Point is located at [62°41′0.3″S 60°22′06.3″W](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=62_41_0.3_S_60_22_06.3_W) which is 5.33 km northeast of [Miers Bluff](/source/Miers_Bluff) and 4.45 km south of [Hespérides Point](/source/Hesp%C3%A9rides_Point) (Detailed Spanish mapping in 1991, and Bulgarian mapping in 2005 and 2009).
