# Hunts Cross chord

**Hunts Cross chord** is a section of railway track in [Liverpool](/source/Liverpool) that was built by the [Cheshire Lines Committee](/source/Cheshire_Lines_Committee) (CLC) to connect the [LNWR](/source/LNWR)'s [Edge Hill](/source/Edge_Hill,_Liverpool) to [Ditton](/source/Ditton,_Cheshire) Junction line with the CLC's [Liverpool to Manchester Line](/source/Liverpool_to_Manchester_Lines#Southern_route). Mainline services between Manchester and Liverpool were diverted to [Lime Street](/source/Liverpool_Lime_Street_railway_station) from their previous terminus at [Central High Level](/source/Liverpool_Central_High_Level_railway_station) over this connection from 5 September 1966.[1]

[Train operating companies](/source/Train_operating_company) using the chord are [East Midlands Railway](/source/East_Midlands_Railway) and [Northern](/source/Northern_(train_operating_company)) for services between and along the CLC route. [TransPennine Express](/source/TransPennine_Express) used this route until May 2018, when trains were rerouted via Newton-le-Willows.
