# Hune Covered Bridge

The **Hune Covered Bridge** is a historic wooden [covered bridge](/source/Covered_bridge) in the southeastern part of the [U.S. state](/source/U.S._state) of [Ohio](/source/Ohio). Located northeast of the community of [Dart](/source/Dart,_Ohio),[1] it spans the [Little Muskingum River](/source/Little_Muskingum_River) in northeastern [Lawrence Township](/source/Lawrence_Township,_Washington_County,_Ohio) in the eastern part of [Washington County](/source/Washington_County,_Ohio).[2] Local bridge builder Rollin Meredith erected it in 1879,[1] using the [Long-truss](/source/Long-truss) style of [truss bridge](/source/Truss_bridge) design; the single-[span](/source/Span_(architecture)) bridge was named for the locally prominent Hune family. Among its design features are a metal roof, [abutments](/source/Abutment) of [cut stone](/source/Cut_stone), and vertical siding. As a Long truss, the Hune Bridge is a valuable example of nineteenth-century architecture: few examples of this complicated style survive to the present day.[3] In 1976, the Hune Bridge was listed on the [National Register of Historic Places](/source/National_Register_of_Historic_Places), both because of its place in local history and because of its historically significant construction.[1]
