The village is located along the northern edge of the municipality, along the west shore of the [Gudbrandsdalslågen](/source/Gudbrandsdalsl%C3%A5gen) river. It lies about {{convert|15|km|sp=us}} north of the [town of Lillehammer](/source/Lillehammer_(town)) and about {{convert|5|km}} north of the village of [Fåberg](/source/F%C3%A5berg_(village)). 

The small village features the [Hunderfossen Familiepark](/source/Hunderfossen_Familiepark), the [Lillehammer Olympic Bobsleigh and Luge Track](/source/Lillehammer_Olympic_Bobsleigh_and_Luge_Track), and the [Hunderfossen Station](/source/Hunderfossen_Station) on the [Dovrebanen](/source/Dovrebanen) railway line.<ref name="snl" />
