# Hugo Vilches

**Hugo Alejandro Héctor Vilches Manuguian** (born February 27, 1969) is a Chilean [football](/source/Association_football) manager and former player who played as a [forward](/source/Forward_(association_football)).

## Playing career

A product of [Universidad de Chile](/source/Club_Universidad_de_Chile), Vilches spent three seasons with them between 1988 and 1990,[1][2] winning the [1989 Segunda División](/source/1989_Segunda_Divisi%C3%B3n_de_Chile), the only time that the club has been in the second level.[3] He also played for [Rangers de Talca](/source/Rangers_de_Talca) in 1991.[4][5]

## Coaching career

Viclhes began his career in Spain. Back in Chile, he worked for Club Oriente de Fútbol from [Chicureo](/source/Chicureo), Santiago in 2004–05.[6]

After, he worked for the Universidad de Chile youth ranks, taking part of the training of players such as [Igor Lichnovsky](/source/Igor_Lichnovsky), [Ángelo Henríquez](/source/%C3%81ngelo_Henr%C3%ADquez), [Sebastián Martínez](/source/Sebasti%C3%A1n_Mart%C3%ADnez_(footballer,_born_1993)), among others.[7] He also was the coach of the Chile youth teams at under-15 and under-18 levels.[4]

In 2012, he served as assistant coach of [Arturo Salah](/source/Arturo_Salah) in [Santiago Wanderers](/source/Santiago_Wanderers).[7] The next season, he assumed as head coach of [Barnechea](/source/A.C._Barnechea) in the [Primera B](/source/Primera_B_de_Chile).[4]

The next years, he worked as head coach of [Huachipato](/source/Huachipato_FC),[8] [Audax Italiano](/source/Audax_Italiano),[9] [Deportes Temuco](/source/Deportes_Temuco)[10] and [Curicó Unido](/source/Curic%C3%B3_Unido).[11]

## Personal life

Hugo is the father of the footballer Diego Vilches Navarro.[12][13]
