In 1953–58 Hugo Steurer taught at the [University of Music and Theatre Leipzig](/source/University_of_Music_and_Theatre_Leipzig). Later, he taught at the [University of Music and Performing Arts Munich](/source/University_of_Music_and_Performing_Arts_Munich). Among his pupils were or are [Homero Francesch](/source/Homero_Francesch), [Gerhard Oppitz](/source/Gerhard_Oppitz), [Yaara Tal](/source/Yaara_Tal), [Heinz Rögner](/source/Heinz_R%C3%B6gner), [Michael Endres](/source/Michael_Endres), and [Annerose Schmidt](/source/Annerose_Schmidt).
