# Hugo Duro

**Hugo Duro Perales** (born 10 November 1999) is a Spanish professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [striker](/source/Forward_(association_football)#Striker) for [La Liga](/source/La_Liga) club [Valencia](/source/Valencia_CF).

## Club career

### Getafe

Born in [Getafe](/source/Getafe), [Madrid](/source/Community_of_Madrid), Duro joined [Getafe CF](/source/Getafe_CF)'s youth setup in 2004, aged five.[2] On 24 October 2017, before even appearing with [the reserves](/source/Getafe_CF_B), he made his professional debut by coming on as a second-half [substitute](/source/Substitute_(association_football)) for [Chuli](/source/Chuli) in a 1–0 home loss against [Deportivo Alavés](/source/Deportivo_Alav%C3%A9s), for [the season](/source/2017%E2%80%9318_Copa_del_Rey)'s [Copa del Rey](/source/Copa_del_Rey).[3]

Duro first appeared with the B-side on 29 October 2017, replacing [Carlos Calderón](/source/Carlos_Calder%C3%B3n_L%C3%B3pez) in a 2–1 [Tercera División](/source/Tercera_Divisi%C3%B3n) away win against [CD El Álamo](/source/CD_El_%C3%81lamo).[4] He scored his first senior goals on 19 November, netting a brace in a 3–0 home win against [DAV Santa Ana](/source/DAV_Santa_Ana).[5]

On 17 March 2018, Duro made his [La Liga](/source/La_Liga) debut in a 2–1 win at [Real Sociedad](/source/Real_Sociedad), as a last-minute replacement for [Jorge Molina](/source/Jorge_Molina_(footballer,_born_1982)).[6] The following 29 January, in the [cup quarter-finals](/source/2018%E2%80%9319_Copa_del_Rey) against [Valencia CF](/source/Valencia_CF), he accidentally blocked a goal-bound shot by Molina as Getafe led on away goals in added time; twelve seconds after the ball ricocheted off his back, opponent [Rodrigo](/source/Rodrigo_(footballer,_born_1991)) scored the winning goal. Valencia's fans and players then turned the television commentary "*Tocó en Hugo Duro*" (It hit Hugo Duro) into a motto as they went on to win the cup, receiving a complaint from the player's agent.[7]

Duro scored his first goal in the division on 8 July 2020, coming off the bench to equalise in a 3–1 home loss to [Villarreal CF](/source/Villarreal_CF).[8] The following month, he signed for [Real Madrid](/source/Real_Madrid_CF) on a season-long loan deal with option to buy, being initially assigned to [the reserves](/source/Real_Madrid_Castilla) in [Segunda División B](/source/Segunda_Divisi%C3%B3n_B).[9] He made his first-team debut for *Los Blancos* on 20 February, in a 1–0 away win over [Real Valladolid](/source/Real_Valladolid),[10] and he first appeared in the [UEFA Champions League](/source/UEFA_Champions_League) four days later, as he replaced [Marco Asensio](/source/Marco_Asensio) in a 1–0 victory over [Atalanta B.C.](/source/Atalanta_B.C.) at the [Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia](/source/Stadio_Atleti_Azzurri_d'Italia).[11] Real were refused permission to loan him for a second season and did not make the €4 million payment to make the deal permanent.[12]

### Valencia

On 31 August 2021, Duro moved to fellow first division side [Valencia CF](/source/Valencia_CF) on a one-year loan deal, reuniting with former Getafe manager [José Bordalás](/source/Jos%C3%A9_Bordal%C3%A1s).[13] He made his debut on 12 September in a 4–1 win at [CA Osasuna](/source/CA_Osasuna), as a half-time replacement for [defender](/source/Defender_(association_football)) [José Gayà](/source/Jos%C3%A9_Gay%C3%A0).[14] A week later, he scored his first goal to open a 2–1 loss to Real Madrid at the [Mestalla Stadium](/source/Mestalla_Stadium);[15] he totalled seven in his [first league campaign](/source/2021%E2%80%9322_La_Liga), including two added-time goals to gain a 3–3 draw at home to [Atlético Madrid](/source/Atl%C3%A9tico_Madrid) on 7 November.[16] On 31 December, he was [sent off](/source/Ejection_(sports)) in a 2–1 loss to visitors [RCD Espanyol](/source/RCD_Espanyol).[17]

In the [2021–22 Copa del Rey](/source/2021%E2%80%9322_Copa_del_Rey), Duro scored the winner in a 2–1 quarter-final win against [Cádiz CF](/source/C%C3%A1diz_CF) on 2 February 2022,[18] and the equaliser in the first leg of the semi-final against [Athletic Bilbao](/source/Athletic_Bilbao) eight days later.[19] In the [final](/source/2022_Copa_del_Rey_Final) on 23 April, he netted Valencia's goal in the 1–1 draw, being replaced by [Bryan Gil](/source/Bryan_Gil) with five minutes of regulation time remaining in an eventual [penalty shootout](/source/Penalty_shootout_(association_football)) defeat to [Real Betis](/source/Real_Betis).[20]

In May 2022, Duro's loan was made permanent on a four-year deal for a fee of €4 million.[21] In the [2023–24 season](/source/2023%E2%80%9324_La_Liga), he became the top scorer for his club, as he also set a new personal best in La Liga by scoring 13 goals.[22]
