**Hugh Smellie** (3 March 1840, in [Ayr](/source/Ayr) – 19 April 1891, at [Bridge of Allan](/source/Bridge_of_Allan)) was a [Scottish](/source/Scotland) engineer.

He was locomotive superintendent of the [Maryport and Carlisle Railway](/source/Maryport_and_Carlisle_Railway) from 1870–1878, the [Glasgow and South Western Railway](/source/Glasgow_and_South_Western_Railway) from 1878–1890 and the [Caledonian Railway](/source/Caledonian_Railway) in 1890.[1]
