'''Howel Walter Samuel''' (1881 – 5 April 1953)<ref>{{Rayment-hc|s|6|date=March 2012}}</ref> was a British [Labour Party](/source/Labour_Party_(UK)) politician.

He was elected as the [member of parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament_(United_Kingdom)) (MP) for [Swansea West](/source/Swansea_West_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) at the [1923 general election](/source/1923_United_Kingdom_general_election),<ref name="craig1918-1949">{{cite book

He was defeated at the [1924 general election](/source/1924_United_Kingdom_general_election) by the [Liberal Party](/source/Liberal_Party_(UK)) candidate [Walter Runciman](/source/Walter_Runciman%2C_1st_Viscount_Runciman_of_Doxford),<ref name="craig1918-1949" /> but at the [1929 general election](/source/1929_United_Kingdom_general_election) Ruciman stood instead in [St Ives](/source/St_Ives_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) and Samuel regained the seat.<ref name="craig1918-1949" />

In [1931](/source/1931_United_Kingdom_general_election), when Labour had split over its leader [Ramsay MacDonald](/source/Ramsay_MacDonald)'s decision to leave the party and form a [Conservative Party](/source/Conservative_Party_(UK))-dominated [National Government](/source/National_Government_(United_Kingdom)), he faced only one opponent, the [Liberal National](/source/National_Liberal_Party_(UK%2C_1931)) candidate [Lewis Jones](/source/Lewis_Jones_(politician)), who took the seat. Samuel did not stand for Parliament again.<ref name="craig1918-1949" />
